Often the number of trucks on a deployment (Stock Transfer or Intra Company) lane can fluctuate dramatically day-to-day, creating stress at the shipping and receiving sites. When the site receiving large numbers of loads on one day gets buried, sometimes the right truck is left unloaded, and customer-order fill suffers. Almost always, volume spikes cause significantly higher transportation and warehousing costs. The graph above is actual truckload volume data with an estimated carrier costs overlay. Spikes must be handled by truck vs. intermodal at a premium cost.
But hold on! Each of these shipments was written by somebody who works for the company. They are supposed to be on our side…this is a self-inflicted wound!
