The cargo is causing many fires at sea – not the ship's operations. The Maersk Honam lost 25% of its crew to one such fire. Complex rules mean that labeling containers is both wrong and sometimes dangerous. A survey showed that about 55% of the 500 containers examined were potential fire hazards, and 69% had either improperly secured cargo or lacked labels on the cases. (No word on how the 500 containers were selected.)
