Diesel fuel costs will spike when ship owners comply with clean air rules by filling up en masse with distillates, i.e., diesel.  Imagine ships suddenly all wanting carrier diesel fuel.  It will be a shock.
 
Volume shock:  Carriers cut payrolls by 1,200 jobs last month, according to preliminary figures the Labor Department reported Friday. 
 
Equipment shock:  North American heavy-duty truck orders plunged 66% last month compared with March 2018.
