Yard delays cost lives

While we have always known that time spent inside the gate – waiting to be loaded or unloaded – pushes up carrier charges, it also endangers life and limb:  according to the U.S. Department of Transportation Office of Inspector General, “a 15-minute increase in average dwell time raises the expected crash rate for a truck by 6.2%.”

The DOT even estimates that detention costs drivers and trucking companies more than $1 billion annually in lost revenue…hence the need for higher rates.  And bear in mind that the most sophisticated carriers know the costs associated with every location.  How do you turn trucks faster?
